Several options are available for saxophones. Here are some general rules of thumb to consider:
Ribbed Construction
In ribbed construction the posts are soldered onto metal ribs that are attached
to the body. This lends the instrument greater rigidity. This rigidity helps
instrument adjustment and longevity.
Auxiliary Range
Top of the line saxophones have extra keys, like the high F# key, attached to
them. Baritone Saxophones come equipped with a "Low A" Key, thus extending
its range.
Different Finish
High-end saxophones generally come with a traditional gold lacquer on the body.
Intermediate saxophones generally have a clear lacquer. For an extra charge
different finishes may be available in silver plate, black or white lacquer.
